The Old Crow restaurant is set to open in a couple of weeks and we dropped into the building site yesterday to take a look at the progress. DWA has been responsible for designing the 2 bars for the restaurant – one which will be the main service bar for lunches and dinners, and one which will …Read more

Seems like we need to start numbering these updates now that things are a’happening, so, counting backwards means this is NUMBER 3.
Our client, Karin, met with the builder on site yesterday to discuss the requirements of trenching and what-not (ah, the joys of undertaking work oneself to save some money); the site manager asked her if we were …Read more

WE HAVE A BUILDER!
Today our client signed a building contract with the good folk at Leimac Building. Next stage is to finalise documentation to submit to City of Vincent for a building permit, and then we can start making a house.

The ‘Cactus Wall’ has been fermenting in the back of the DWA studio hive-mind since the beginning of the project, when the client made passing mention of a cactus collection.
It has morphed from a screening device in the kitchen to a combined ‘entry statement/child staircase-balustrade-climbing-deterrent’, because elegant solutions to spikey problems are what good design is all …Read more

The wait is almost over – The Old Crow is squawking about a mid-May opening date on their Facebook page!
Our posts have been slow but not because there is nothing going on, rather that we have been too busy! The stained-glass panels for the bar have been cut and arranged, ready for lead-lighting and afixing to the shelf …Read more

This is great news as it means we can proceed directly to submitting our Building Permit application, and we can not wait to see this little gem under construction.

A little peak at a work in progress…
Yes, that is a waterfall off the roof. We’re having a great time working on this extension to a 1950s deco-revival home in leafy Nedlands. It’s not a big house and it’s not a big extension, but its intent is to make the house more livable and to engage …Read more

We’ve been busy working up a design for a compact family home in the characterful port-side suburb of East Fremantle. We posted a peak at the site a few weeks ago and can now show off the first render of the residence!
She’s a respectable 165m², 2-storey, 3-bedroom home, intended to be clad in weatherboard and fibre-cement; windows …Read more

At this …Read more

Fellow proponents of tiny houses and super-talented to boot, Nest Architects are a small firm based in Melbourne and we dig what they do.
Nest produces some lovely, considered projects and have been kind enough to advise DWA in the past on the intricacies of the Victorian planning system. Check out one of their recently completed projects here:

The Exploding Shed House! (exclamation mark obligatory) has been approved for its Development Application and documentation is underway for a Building Permit.
Our goal is to create a beautiful, functional small house, that fulfils the dreams of our client on a very tight budget. The intention is to fabricate as much of the building off-site as possible, …Read more
